 Pen and Ink

I started with pen and ink drawing and slowly graduated to color. An ink pen and a sheet of paper are enough to create an infinity of intimate and classical drawings where a diversity of ink strokes and techniques replace colors and a myriad of details conveys a sense of reality and dimension. I always thought that I would be saved if stranded on a deserted island if I had an endless supply of ink and paper. Some of the larger ink drawing that I have done were completed after many months where progress was measured in centimeters.

As Dali, Picasso, Honoré Daumier, the French printmaker and the Japanese and Chinese landscape romantic painters and calligraphists before them, I find pen and ink to be the most intimate of all mediums. Many collectors purchase pen and inks for their unique and classical quality. I was represented for many years by the Vorpal Gallery in San Francisco and New York which exhibited the first drawings, wood-cuts and etchings by M.C. Escher. A simple brush or a pen dipped in ink can create the most detailed and dramatic drawing on paper.
