Pastel
| Painting with pastels is akin to drawing as their softness and malleability lead to endless blending. There is a sensuality and a sense of intimacy as if drawing was a caress filled with love and meaning. A large pastel may require a few months of infinite patience and endless layering to create depth and bring out details for the best pastels are always hopelessly too large. Whether described as surreal, symbolic, visionary or spiritual, pastel paintings best conveys with elegance the fragrance of certain emotions. |

| I use this most durable and light fast medium, because it is composed of almost pure color pigments to create paintings on rag (paper made of cotton fibers) which I often prefer highly saturated and blended. A pastel painting has a unique velvety texture that varies depending on the quality of the paper and the most subtle range of tones. Well known artists and impressionists such as Degas, Quentin De La Tour and Georgia O'Keefe have left us magnificent pastels that appear to have been drawn yesterday, now hanging in private homes and art museums. |
