 OILS

  I love painting with oils although I find it to be the most demanding medium, requiring layers that need to dry before the next can be applied and long hours of blending while the paint can still be manipulated. The rich colors and density are as striking and rich as wild flowers on a green hill. A large linen canvas or wood panel demands hundred of hours of work, its beauty and harmony finally revealed with the last brush stroke as with the last piece of a puzzle.

  The brilliancy of oil color, especially when still wet is unsurpassed and has been prized for centuries by collectors. Visiting René Magritte's exhibition of surreal art at the San Francisco Museum of Art became my greatest and only lesson in oil painting. Many of my oil paintings have been purchased by people conscious that a print does not offer the depth, subtlety and of course uniqueness of an original and through art galleries, corporate art consultants and occasional museum exhibitions.
